Frequently Asked Questions

Screen printing is the process of decorating apparel with ink. Films are used to “burn” images into silk screens, through which ink is pressed through onto the shirts. The shirts are then sent through a large dryer at temperatures over 300 degrees to cure the ink.

Embroidery is the process of decorating apparel with thread. Older generations may have embroidered apparel and other items (such as blankets, handkerchiefs, etc) by hand with needles and thread. Nowadays, we use high capacity embroidery machines to stitch logos and other decorations onto the apparel.

Sublimation shirt printing is a specific process of printing that first involves printing onto a specific sheet of fabric (usually polyester or a polyester mix). The fabric is then cut and sewn together into the desired style of shirt.

Our owner, Brent, started in the screen printing and embroidery industry out of college in 2011 with a degree in graphic design.

After working for three separate screen printing and embroidery businesses, one for a total of 8 years, he started BCD Marketing in February of 2023 out of his garage, and the business has been growing exponentially since then.

For most embroidery orders, we can run one piece orders without issue.

Screen printing requires extra prep work, thus requiring a minimum of 12 pieces per set-up (please note: adult v youth shirts require separate set-ups due to imprint sizes).
We can run screen print orders of less than 12 pieces with additional set-up charges.

Most sublimation orders require a six piece minimum for the initial order, with single piece follow up orders allowed on the same design set-up.

Most hat orders require a 15 to 24 piece minimum, depending on the style and decoration options.

The cost of screen printing orders can vary drastically from order to order, even on repeat orders of the same logo. There are three main factors that go into determining the cost of a screen print order: 1) what style/brand/fabric shirt is being ordered (cotton tee, triblend v-neck, polyester hoodie, etc), 2) how many colors and locations are being imprinted (1-color front, 2-color front and 1-color back, etc), 3) how many items are being ordered per set-up. A 50-piece order with logo A will cost less per item than a 12-piece order with the same logo due to the quantity ordered.

Because of the level of variance from order to order, there is no standard price. Please contact us for a personalized quote!

After you give your payment for your order, we can then order the blank items and anything else we may need (vinyl for names/numbers, additional ink colors, etc). Most items typically take 1 to 7 business days to arrive at our facility. Once all items needed have been received, the order then gets put into the production queue for decoration.

Our typical turnaround time is 10-15 days for screen print and embroidery. Standard turnaround time for sublimation is 15-20 business days.

Once we have given you a quote and you’re ready to place your order, we will send you an invoice via email that you can pay securely online with a credit card. If you don’t want to pay online, you can call in your card info, although paying online is usually easiest for everyone.

All orders are prepaid. Orders do not proceed to production without payment.

We can also take cash or a check, although waiting for a check to come and clear may delay the order.

You can, yes, although it will be very costly. The following is a brief description of the process required to print an order: art set-up, film set-up, screen emulsion prep, exposing film to screen, rinsing exposed screen out, taping screen up to prevent ink from getting through any potential pinholes, setting screen onto press, lining screens up to ensure straight and quality prints, test printing on scrap garments/fabrics to ensure alignment, printing the order, curing the ink through the dryer, folding and boxing order, removing screens from press, cleaning out ink from screens, washing screens, reclaiming/removing emulsion from screens, rinse and repeat.

The complexity of the process briefed above is why we have a minimum order quantity of 12 pieces. For any orders less than minimum, we charge a set-up fee of $20 per color printed, per location.

We would highly recommend looking into Direct-to-Garment or Direct-to-Film print for orders less than minimum.

If you have something specific in mind, let us know and we can take a look to see if we can get it! We can order thousands of different brands and styles, but may not be able to order every brand or style.

Use the Contact page to send us your information and we’ll get back to you quickly with a quote! Giving quotes via email is a significantly better way to give the information, however we can give quotes over the phone as well, or at the very least we take your information by phone, research your specific needs, and send you an email or phone call to give you your quote.

Just send us an email at info@bcd-marketing.com and we’ll check out your file(s). If your file is too big to send via email, just use something like Dropbox or Google Share and send us the link.

Vector files are the absolute best; 99% of all orders will require a vector logo/artwork to fulfill. These file types include: .ai, .cdr, .eps, and .svg. Another vector friendly file type is .pdf, although not all .pdfs are vector art.

Should your artwork not be vector, we may have to charge an art fee to a) vectorize the art or b) create process separations.

Pricing can vary from order to order, and from decoration style to decoration style.

Screen print pricing is determined by three main factors: 1) what style/fabric items are you ordering, 2) how many colors/locations are being printed, and 3) how many items are being ordered per set-up.

Embroidery pricing is determined by three main factors: 1) what style/fabric items are you ordering, 2) what is the stitch count of the logos being embroidered, and 3) how many items are being ordered per set-up.

Because of the significant variance between order to order, all prices are customized for the individual order.

Possibly. We would need to know all the details before we can agree to decorate provided products to ensure of a quality and type that our machines can decorate.

Because the decoration process can cause unwanted damage to garments (i.e. embroidery needles tearing a hole in a shirt, print flash burning a shirt, etc), we prefer to provide all garments for orders to ensure maximum quality. This allows us to easily order a replacement should an unforeseen issue arise. And, because of the amount of blank items we buy annually, we get just about the best pricing possible for blank goods.

Should we agree to decorate provided garments, we do not guarantee provided garments for unwanted damage during the decoration process. We are not responsible for replacing, crediting, refunding, etc any provided products that may be damaged during decoration.

There’s no real prep needed, as we will do the work ourselves to get your artwork separated and ready to be turned into the films we use to make screens, or to be digitized for embroidery.

Just please try to make sure that your artwork is vector format. Should provided artwork be raster images, an art fee may be applied.

That’s fine. We can vectorize the artwork, or if it is unable to be vectorized we will create a process separation for it. An art fee may be applied for all non-vector artwork.

No problem! Tell us your ideas and we can create artwork for you! Simple art designs we do not charge for. Complex designs may have an art fee applied.

Unfortunately, we do not have the capability of adding a fulfillment program at this time.

Shipping costs will vary depending on the size of the order and the destination. Most freight companies base costs off the dimensions and weight per box.

We do not charge any screen creation fees or ink mixing fees for our retail customers, which saves people a lot of extra cost. We don’t want to nickel and dime our customers like other screen printing shops do.

The only fees we currently charge are set-up fees for orders less than our minimum, ink color changes, and art fees (including vector art set-up, digitizing set-up, sublimation art set-up).

Screen set-up charges for orders less than our minimum are $20 per color printed, per location. For example, if you have red shirts with a black and white logo going on the left chest and a black and white logo going on a full back, the set-up charge would be $40 for the front and $40 for the back.

Ink color changes are $20 per change. For example, if you have 50 white shirts, with 25 getting a red logo and 25 getting a blue logo (the exact same logo), we have to stop the run, clean out the ink from the screen and change it to a different color.

Art fees start at $25 and vary depending on the complexity of the set-up.

We are based out of Bunker Hill, Indiana. We do not currently have a storefront though. We are happy to deliver your order to you for free if you are local, or ship your order to you if you are not. We can ship to anywhere in the continental US.

We really try not to. It can turn into a nightmare quickly, and tariffs are complicated and expensive. We have international orders shipped back to us, even when everything was properly documented.

We don’t prefer to support clothing lines because, in our experience, they never seem to go anywhere for the people who start them. We’ve seen so many people sink various amounts of money into clothing lines, just for the line to fizzle and not work out. It’s a very, very hard business to be successful in, and we’d rather support your endeavors in other ways.

Yes please! You can find our contact info on our Contact page.

No, sorry. That is not a service that we offer.

“BCD Designs saved me from going to big corporate. Normally, you think you’d have to sacrifice a little quality for the “small town” guy. Not the case…AT ALL. Full sublimated jerseys just as high quality as the “big dogs” if not better and best part was NO MISTAKES. We had to reorder to get more for fans because they were so nice! Great local business that delivers high quality product in the timely manner that they promised. I’ve used them personally and commercially now. Not my last purchase.”
